Precision model kits at great prices
I'm Russ; I started the Rail Labs after deciding that current offerings weren't what I needed.
I wanted to produce kits that require minimal construction, allowing me to add wheels, couplings, paint and decals to get the model on the rails.
All of my kits are designed with careful thought to the build process, and when finished offer a satisfying model.
I primarily model in 7mm scale, but if you'd like something bespoke check out my commissions page below.
The pwd concept
PWD stands for Paint, Wheels, Details. These are the steps required to finish my kits.
After a cursory clean up of the parts, and some very basic assembly, all that's needed is paint, your wheelsets and any details you would like to add (some kits need handrails, transfers, etc).

01
Consultation
During the consultation stage I'll ask a few questions about what you'd like, what scale it's for, and what features it should have. Each design starts with a conversation, and you'll be involved throughout the whole process.
02
Research
As part of the design, I'll be doing thorough research on what is being asked for. From finding original drawings and diagrams, to making my own catalogue of reference material for the project, I put the time in to make sure the model is as accurate as possible.
03
Initial Design
Once my research is complete enough I'll start drawing to your desired scale. Designing in the scale it is intended for allows me to tailor each detail to the size of the model. It's often the case that dimensionally accurate models can look "wrong", and altering certain features to make them more prominent can really help.
04
Refinement
Once the initial design is done, I'll send renderings over to you, and ask for your input - small changes that you want made are included in the quote. I take my time to bring the model you desire to your layout, and work with you to achieve that.
05
Printing
Understanding the machines I work with is key to my methodology. I run both filament and resin printers. Both have their benefits and disadvantages, which means selecting the right kind of print for the model is essential. I have over 10 years experience in 3D printing, and I'll select the best process to produce the best model for you.
06
Install
Once you receive your model it's up to you to install how you see fit!
I love seeing the models in situ, so always feel free to send pictures over - the best way for this is through the Facebook or Instagram page, but email works too!
Customer Gallery
If you submit some pictures of your model, I'll feature it below - just get in touch!
